What happens if State of Maine agreed to change unions bargaining status .i.e. bargain for only members but then offers better benefits for non members?

The union/PAC bosses could avoid that issue, as I believe they should, by simply demanding a non-monopoly contract. Please remember that Federal law does NOT require labor unions to represent all workers and the U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that the National Labor Relations Act allows unions to negotiate contracts covering only dues-paying members. As Justice Brennan wrote in Retail Clerks v. Dry Lion Goods (1962), “Members only contracts have long been recognized.” If a union decides against exclusive monopoly bargaining, choosing instead to negotiate only on behalf of its own members, it is not required to represent non-members... but the greedy union/PAC bosses have done it to themselves!

It would be prudent to remember that all this started when MSEA stood for Maine State Employee ASSOCIATION.
For those not aware that ment such matters were at the whim of legislature not a collective bargaining process.
The Janus decision affected only Federal worker unions, not the rest. It should be extrapolated, but not so far - as evidenced by the right-to-work battle in Missouri.
Of course, true to the leftist agenda, this piece plays the race card. All they need to find is one historical racist, and then extrapolate to all supporters. The Guardian can always be counted on to smear anyone not of their persuasion.
With all due respect, Toolsmith, I believe the Janus decision affects all public servants involved in the money-laundering program known as Forced Unionism.

I agree, but that's not how the left is playing it. It may require another Supreme Court decision to establish that Janus applies to all unions.
The left certainly is good at playing stuff, but I believe the court ruling was very clear that it only applies to public-sector unions... but there's another effort underway for the private sector workplaces.

And all his experience is in politics and legislation without any real mention of accomplishments.

Maybarduk said he was not aware of any specific incidents in which a response by a public safety agency was delayed due to the shortage of staff at the dispatch center, but the union is concerned public safety could be compromised.
Translation: Union wants more government employees hired so Union gets more monthly dues!
That’s why hiring is an inherent right of management.

Their business operations model is always to have more money coming in than going out.

For what it's worth I have been saying this for years here and there.
What is needed is for government to go way beyond Janus and just deregulate labor unions everywhere.
Because no bargaining unit of employees should have to get the government's permission to fire their union.
And I am not anti-union for saying this, just anti-bad union and pro-worker!
